The most innovative thinker on Canada’s place in the world today is the Canadian currently playing the most prominent international role.

Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney.

As the man monitoring the performance of the worlds’ economies, Carney has a better sense of the contemporary world than anyone else in this country.

The fact that he is worried about the level of household debt in Canada doesn’t detract from his international understanding.

It just shows he is aware that overloaded debt levels and inevitable
higher interest rates could make Canada look a lot more like the United States, Britain and much of the European Union.

Mark Carney has the best understanding of the current state of the world. And because of that he has the best understanding of Canada’s place in it.
