Tamara Shaya

Born into an Iraqi family, Tamara Shaya grew up learning about human rights issues and religious conflict and knew at a young age she wanted to help make a difference in the world. After graduating from Taylor University with a media communications degree, Tamara joined a non-profit organization committed to encouraging dialogue between Muslims and Christians. While there, she directed their Media and Public Relations program, leading the communications team in marketing a variety of events and products. Tamara also has worked for the Clapham Group, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm, where she represented clients such as the ONE campaign, a group that focuses on alleviating poverty and preventable disease in Africa. Tamara is currently pursuing a MA in Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame and is currently in Gulu, Uganda, interning for the Justice and Reconciliation Project’s Gender Advocacy team, working with formerly abducted women.
