Trudeau Scholar in the Political Science department at Dalhousie University
Carla Suarez is a Trudeau Scholar in the Political Science department at Dalhousie University. Drawing upon critical theory, her main research interests include civilian protection; gender, youth, and armed conflict; and transitional justice and social repair processes. Her advocacy and research efforts are inspired by her previous fieldwork experience in Africa (Northern Uganda, South Africa, and Rwanda) and Latin America (Guatemala and Peru). Through a political ethnography, Carla’s doctoral dissertation examines how the youth in South Sudan self-protect during and after mass violence. In particular, she is interested in the intersection of resistance, violence, and gender in the context of the everyday of violence.
