John Baker founded Desire2Learn in 1999 at the age of 22, while still a Systems Design Engineering student at the University of Waterloo. Desire2Learn is a world leader in building technology that is transforming teaching and learning with a complete spectrum of products and services ranging from the more traditional Learning Management System to ePortfolios and next generation mobile learning and predictive analytics to help keep students engaged. Desire2Learn has built an incredibly passionate and talented team that is dedicated to improving human potential worldwide. The company currently supports many hundreds of schools, colleges, universities, companies, healthcare providers, associations, and government agencies, and over 6 million learners using their technology each day. The company has won a Deloitte Fast50 award in 2009, 2008, 2007, and 2006 for 5-year rate of growth, and numerous other business and industry awards. Desire2Learn also received recognition as one of the top 50 Best Small & Medium Employers in Canada, and Top 15 Employer in Waterloo Region for 2011. John is a strong believer in community involvement devoting both personal and business efforts to supporting young entrepreneurs that are developing and applying technology to improve society worldwide. He is an executive board member at Communitech, a board member of the National Ballet School (in Canada), affinity board member for Memorial University, and alumni council member for the University of Waterloo.
