Nipissing (North Bay)
About
Nestled on the shores of Lake Nipissing, North Bay is a vibrant small city in Northeastern Ontario. Indeed, its role as a crossroads continues to expand within the Province of Ontario, Canada and abroad. With the repaving of the runway at the Jack Garland Airport, North Bay provides one of only three airports (the others being Pearson International and Hamilton) in Ontario capable of handling wide-bodied long-haul aircraft. Additionally, North Bay is the site of the eastern command of NORAD and has a rich history in Canada’s aerial defence. With the completion of the dual-laning of Highway 11 we are closer to Southern Ontario than ever before. In the future, the city’s links to James Bay and beyond may become more important in international trade as global warming makes shipping across the Arctic basin a distinct possibility.
In part because of these exciting changes, and in part because of the enthusiasm of a core group of supporters, we have established a CIC Nipissing Branch. We have now completed two successful speaker seasons in 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, hosting dynamic speakers in North Bay. We are also continuing to forge new ties with local groups linked by our interest in international issues across a variety of fields. Come and join us on our international journey!
